DNS explained

The Domain Name System, or for short DNS, is one of the main foundations of the Internet. But still, many people outside of networking don’t even realize that they benefit from using it. Actually, they do it every day to check their email, for example, or do their jobs. To make it simple, DNS is a directory of names corresponding with numbers.
